DTF Heat Press Instructions

How to Apply Your 4K Stitch and Print DTF Transfer

Follow these steps to apply your DTF transfer to a garment. For the correct temperature, press time, pressure, and peel method, always use the instructions supplied with your specific transfer. Settings can vary by transfer film, garment material, and heat press.

Before You Begin

  • Use a heat press that can apply even heat and pressure across the design.

  • Check that the garment is suitable for heat application and review its care label.

  • Make sure the garment is dry, smooth, and free of lint in the print area.

  • Set the temperature, time, and pressure according to the instructions for your transfer.

  • Keep seams, pockets, buttons, zippers, and thick areas away from the main press area when possible.

Application Steps

  1. Prepare the garment. Lay it flat on the heat press. Pre-press only if the instructions for your transfer and garment call for it.

  2. Position the transfer. Place it where you want the design. Follow the transfer’s instructions for which side faces the garment and which side faces up.

  3. Press the design. Use the specified temperature, time, and pressure. Keep the press closed for the full recommended time.

  4. Let the transfer cool or rest as directed. Follow the peel timing on the instructions. Some films require a hot peel, while others must cool first.

  5. Peel carefully. Lift the film slowly from one corner. If the design begins to lift, stop and check the transfer instructions before continuing.

  6. Apply a second press only if instructed. Some transfers call for a finishing press. Follow the supplied guide for the cover material and settings.

Important Pressing Tips

  • Do not guess the temperature, time, pressure, or peel method.

  • Avoid stretching or shifting the garment while pressing.

  • Make sure the entire design receives even pressure.

  • A household iron may not provide the consistent heat and pressure needed for reliable results; a heat press is recommended.

  • Test on a suitable garment or sample when you’re unsure how the fabric will respond to heat.

  • Follow the transfer-specific care instructions before washing or drying the finished garment.
